Daniel Evans
   

  Daniel Evans, Artistic Director at Sheffield Theatres, is an established actor on stage and screen as well as an acclaimed theatre director.

He trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company.
On stage he has appeared in numerous productions including A Midsummer Night's Dream, Cardiff East, Peter Pan, The Merchant of Venice, Candide, Cleansed, Psychosis, The Tempest, Ghosts, Measure for Measure and Cymbeline.

Daniel has appeared on both the West End and Broadway in Stephen Sondheim's musical, Sunday Night in the Park with George. In 2001 he won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in another Sondheim musical, Merrily We Roll Along.

On TV he has worked with the BBC, especially on period dramas, including Great Expectations, Daniel Deronda and The Virgin Queen. He also appeared in Spooks, Dalziel and Pascoe, Doctor Who, The Passion, Holby City and Midsomer Murders. Daniel has also appeared in feature films including A Midsummer Night's Dream, Cameleon, The Barber of Siberia, Tomorrow, La Scala! and The Ramen Girl.

He debuted as a theatre director in 2005 before succeeding Samuel West as Artistic Director for Sheffield Theatres in 2010, taking responsibility for both the Crucible and Lyceum Theatres.

To date he has directed two very successful productions, Enemy of the People and Racing Demon. He returns to acting this year in the Richard Wilson directed The Pride at the Crucible Studio. In December he stars in yet another Sondheim masterpiece musical, Company.
     
Frances Barber

  Frances Barber is an Olivier Award-nominated actress, with a long and successful stage and screen career.

She has appeared in numerous productions in the West End and across the country. Highlights include the Pet Shop Boys' musical, Closer to Heaven, in 2001, appearing alongside Sir Ian McKellen and Roger Allam in the Old Vic's pantomime Aladdin and again performing with McKellen in Trevor Nunn's production of King Lear.

In 2010 she appeared in the critically acclaimed That Face at Sheffield's Crucible Studio where she made acquaintance with Theatre at Dempseys.

On screen Frances Barber has featured in well over a hundred productions, for TV - A Passionate Woman, Poirot, The Street, Hotel Babylon, Law & Order UK, Casualty, Beautiful People, Hustles, New Tricks, Funland, Marple, Midsomer Murders, The Nativity and Friday Night Dinner; for film - Goal 1 and 2, Suzie Gold, Superstition, Shiner, Still Crazy, Photographing Fairies, Soft Top,Hard Shoulder, Sammie and Rosie Get Laid, Prick Up Your Ears, A Zed and Two Noughts and The Missionary.


  This year Frances is busy on the small screen with six memorable episodes  in the new series of  Doctor Who. She appears as the Eye Patch Lady/Madame Kovarian and has gained cult status to a new audience. Frances also appears in a new BBC4 drama called We'll Take Manhattan where she plays Diana Vreeland alongside Karen Gillan.
